Canadian Farrier Certification System
Welcome to Canada's Certification Program!
This is Canada's Farrier Certification Program, which aims to increase the quality of farrier work across Canada. The Approved Training Farriers of Canada (AFTC) provides examinations and educational resources to help farriers push their skills to the next level. The exams are divided into levels depending on a candidate's level of experience and skill.
In order to be eligible for an exam, candidates must submit a portfolio of work meeting criteria set by the AFTC (see the portfolio menu for more details!).
The current levels of certification offered are:
Level 1, Approved Apprentice Farrier of Canada (AAFC)- This exam is perfect for recent graduates from a farrier school or new farrier apprentices.
Level 2, Approved Farrier of Canada (AFC)- This exam is ideal for farriers who have mastered the basics of hoof care and can demonstrate a high level of everyday farrier work.
Level 3, Approved Journeyman Farrier of Canada (AJFC)- These exams are for experienced farriers who are able to demonstrate advanced levels of farrier work.

The Approved Training Farriers of Canada (AFTC), are passionate about continued farrier education and quality hoof care of equines. Our certification system focuses on giving candidates goals and educational materials and opportunities, to demonstrate and advance their capabilities.
Founded in 2020 and based in Canada, we are a devoted community made up of enthusiastic farriers who share a love for the trade and care about the wellbeing of horses.
